What is the CBD? GYBN #YouthSpeak

The Convention on Biological Diversity, CBD for short is a global environmental agreement. It was adopted in 1992, and it brings together almost all countries of the world to protect biodiversity.
Under the CBD, the countries agreed to ensure that biodiversity is conserved, sustainably used, and that benefits arising from the use of genetic resources are being shared equitably.
Every two years, representatives from national governments come together for a two-week meeting called the Conference of Parties (COP) to discuss how the CBD can get implemented – and for this, they create COP decisions.
However, implementation depends on the willingness of national governments. If governments do not want to do something or don’t have the resources, the CBD can’t force them.
Thus it is important that civil society – including youth – apply pressure on governments to take action on these globally agreed policy frameworks.
This is where GYBN comes in. We are the official youth constituency for the CBD, and we bring youth voices together to influence the process of global policymaking.
Join our vibrant youth movement and help us to shape the next global biodiversity framework.

Usui taught his newly discovered form of healing to several pupils, who continued the chain of teaching throughout the years.
